Welcome to Little Pickles

We are looking forward to welcoming all of our new starters in September. Our first topic is 'Who am I?', where we will explore how we are all unique and about our families. On this page we will share pictures of our adventures and below there are some useful details about day to day life at Little Pickles.

We can't wait to meet you all properly!

The Little Pickles Team

Little Pickles Useful Information:

Snack and Drinks:

We provide fruit/vegetable snacks and milk (1 carton per day) for the children, if you wish to send additional snacks or drinks please do so in a labelled box/bag.

All children should bring a labelled water bottle to school which will be kept in our classroom. The children can access this at all time and bottles will be refilled during the day.

Day to Day Essentials:

As part of the Early Years curriculum, we encourage the children to use our outside area and the field as part of their learning in all weathers. Please ensure that the children have wellies, waterproof trousers/dungarees and coats in school every day.

If your child is in nappies, please provide a clearly labelled changing bag with the necessary items in. We will support and encourage the children when potty training but do suggest that you provided enough spare pants  and clothes for any little accidents.

Even for potty trained children, it is always useful to provide a spare pair of underwear in the children's bag in case of any accidents and you may also wish to provide a spare pair of trousers/skirt to change into. We will speak to you at the end of the session discretely and return any washing to you in a carrier bag if needed.

Tapestry:

Your child's learning journey is always accessible via Tapestry our online learning journey tool. When your child starts you will be sent a parent log in via email (please check your junk mailbox). Your child's learning journey documents learning and exploration that takes places at school and how this meets developmental expectations for their age. In order to get the whole picture of a child's journey we ask parents to share pictures, video and comments for outside of school.

How to upload to Tapestry:

Choose the ‘Add Observation’ option (or the ‘plus’ icon on your iphone/ipad) and add the relevant information into the boxes on the screen. Photos and videos may be uploaded by choosing the ‘add media’ option. When you have saved your observation, you may go back to the home screen at any time by choosing the ‘Obs’ tab or clicking on the logo (on the cloud, top left corner).

Key Person Approach:

We operate a 'key person' approach in Little Pickles. Whilst all staff work with the children and are there to make them feel safe and happy, we have small groups allocated to a member of staff. Even though all of our staff will be very familiar to the children due to our small numbers, these groups aim to make sure that there is a specific person who takes charge of supporting the child’s physical and emotional well-being. These groups are also used during class activities and their key person will tend to be their lead adult for certain activities.

If you have any questions or queries, please catch one of the nursery staff at the end of the session. If you require more time to discuss a matter, please don't hesitate to email the office with a question or arrange a meeting outside of the core session hours. I look forward to working closely with you  and getting to know your child and family better over the year.

Our Curriculum

We have a big question focus curriculum in nursery and our Federation Schools.

Our curriculum aims to develop our pupils by providing:

  • Nurture – A curriculum that develops every child’s ability to care, respect and nurture themselves, others and the world in which they live.
  • Cherish - A curriculum that ensures that every child feels valued and cherished
  • Shine - A curriculum that provides a range of opportunities, designed to develop every child’s sense of what is possible for them to achieve and shine as individuals.
  • Flourish – A curriculum that ensures all children have the skills, knowledge and crucially, the attitude to flourish in all aspects of their lives and to embrace the ‘ows, wows, and nows’ that life presents.

Please see our Long Term Plans below which sets out the key questions over the year.  Our big question map is an overview for the term's big question and how this links to the prime and specific areas of learning. Our NCSF nursery phonics long term plan sets out our focus from Phase 1 and the sound of the week.
