Music

Nurture

All children’s enjoyment and enthusiasm of a variety of musical genre will be nurtured through tuned and untuned instruments being available in class to use / experiment with during ‘choosing’ time and regularly listening to different styles of music. All children will be encouraged to share how the music makes them feel and share their likes and dislikes.

Cherish

Children have access to valuable instruments that they are trusted to use and care for. These will be used during high quality music lessons and all children will be encouraged to also use their voices expressively as an instrument.

Shine

Children perform to parents and or peers as a way to demonstrate and celebrate their learning and shine as both individuals and a group.

Flourish

Children regularly demonstrate their enjoyment of different types of music from classical to modern through Music of the Week. Children will be encouraged to share their likes and dislikes using musical language they have learnt.

Program of Study

Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity. A high quality music education should engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement. As pupils progress, they should develop a critical engagement with music, allowing them to compose, and to listen with discrimination to the best in the musical canon.
