GROW UP, BULLIES!
By The Pupils of The North Cotswolds Schools Federation
(Cold Aston, Swell, Longborough, St James and Ebrington)
There are horrible words
That you may have heard
Some you don’t even understand fully
When someone calls you names
Again and again
That person is simply a bully
This poem will show
That even though
You might face a bully each day
If you're strong inside
Keep your spirit and pride
They can never take your smile away
Would YOU do the right thing
If you saw bullying?
Could you be courageous and brave?
Would you say 'That's enough!
You think you're so tough
But grow up! That's no way to behave'
In Years One and Two
You're the smallest in school
So it feels bad if someone's unkind
You feel scared and alone
All on your own
Stress and worry build up in your mind
You think 'Why pick on me?
Why can't you see
It's not nice and makes me want to cry
You boss me around
Push me to the ground
You're not sorry and don’t explain why'
Would YOU do the right thing
If you saw bullying?
Could you be courageous and brave?
Would you say 'That's enough!
You think you're so tough
But grow up! That's no way to behave'
In Years Three and Four
You learn a lot more
You're older and start to get bigger
But bullies get bigger too
And say things that aren't true
Call you ugly, punch, kick, point and snigger
They leave you bruised
Frustrated, confused
They think they can be Judge and Jury
Their words sting your ears
You're tormented by fears
And puzzled by all of their fury
Would YOU do the right thing
If you saw bullying?
Could you be courageous and brave?
Would you say 'That's enough!
You think you're so tough
But grow up! That's no way to behave'
In Years Five and Six
You're growing up quick
But the bullies are still trying hard
They're learning new ways
To tear up your days
To leave your mind and your body all scarred
They won't leave you alone
On your tablet or phone
They can hurt you wherever you go
They make fun of your choices
And use mocking voices
You feel powerless and scared to say no
Would YOU do the right thing
If you saw bullying?
Could you be courageous and brave?
Would you say 'That's enough!
You think you're so tough
But grow up! That's no way to behave'
Bullies love playing games
And calling you names
That hurt and are so full of spite
They won't pick on the strong
What they do is wrong
But you don't need your fists to fight...
The first step is just
TELL SOMEONE YOU TRUST
Because bullies hate being found out
If we all stick together
We'll beat bullies forever
And that’s what growing up is all about
So please do the right thing
If you see bullying
Please be courageous and brave
Say 'STOP! That's enough!
You’re a bully, not tough
Just grow up, and learn to behave'
As part of Anti-Bullying week, the children across the federation put together some ideas about how they feel about bullying and what we could do to prevent it. With the help of a local poet, Juli Taylor, we have produced our own anti-bullying poem.
You can find a recording of the poem, read by Juli, on her YouTube Channel. https://youtu.be/pG54PYsVFjU
Thank you to the children and Juli for providing us with such a thoughtful poem.
