Happy half term!
We won’t be setting work this week as we are preparing for the potential re-opening in June. We won’t know for sure what is happening until Boris’ address on the 28th. In the meantime have a happy, sunny, restful and healthy half term.

Hello JCR children and parents!

On Monday 27th April the DFE are beginning their online phonics lessons. These should be a great resource, they have celebrities introducing them and they are following the same phonics programme we use at school. They are being shown on their You Tube channel daily.  https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCP_FbjYUP_UtldV2K_-niWw/featured?disable_polymer=1

White Rose Maths also have daily video lessons on their website to make things easier for you.  https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/early-years/

The plan for next week is below together with the resources you need. I'm trying to keep printing to a minimum (I'm aware a lot of people don't have printers) so you will usually find an alternative activity or a make your own option.

Week commencing 20.4.20

Hi everyone!

I trust you have all had a healthy and safe Easter break and that the Easter Bunny was able to visit despite the lock-down?

Please find below the plan for this half term (until the end of May). This gives you an overview of the areas of learning we are hoping to cover. You do not need to tick these off or cover everything, it's just a guide for us to refer to.

There is also a plan for the week commencing 20.4.20. If you need clarification of anything please email me: JCR@stjeb.school

Please keep uploading pictures to Tapestry and check for some challenges!

Stay safe - miss you.

This link is to a new book explaining Coronavirus to children. It is illustrated by Axel Scheffler who does the artwork for Julia Donaldson. My children enjoyed hearing this.

Hi everyone,

Thank you for all the time and hard work you have put into home schooling the past 2 weeks. It's been lovely to see your pictures and receive your emails!

There are some suggestions for activities you can do over the 2 week Easter break below. These are totally optional but may help if you get stuck for things to do.

There will soon be a page of helpful links on the homepage listing lots of websites and ideas which you may or may not have seen on social media.

Please enjoy your family time over Easter. I hope the Easter bunny pays you all a visit!

World book day! We dressed up and enjoyed looking at ‘mog the forgetful cat’. We heard lots of stories during the day and practised sequencing events from the story.

Developing fine motor skills. Sewing with wool and needles.

Snow! Lots of fun exploring the snow...

Preparing and eating a healthy snack.

NSPCC number day! What a number-tactic day...

Lots of fun at Forest School!

Enjoying the great outdoors and creating Valentine’s Day art using natural materials.

On Thursday 5th December JCR went on a school trip to the Christmas tree festival in Stow on the Wold. We went in the minibus (which was extremely exciting and had red seat belts!) and looked at the amazing trees. There were over 40 trees decorated in lots of themes. We particularly liked the Pom Pom tree and the one decorated with real chocolate! The school tree looked great and we added the last few decorations to it. We were given squash and a biscuit too. Everyone behaved brilliantly, they were a pleasure to take. Many thanks to our adult helpers too.

Science day ~ Wednesday 27th November

Today we have been learning about light and shadows. We went out in the playground to draw round each other’s shadows but the sun stayed mostly behind the clouds!

After break we read the Gruffalo’s child and discussed the ‘Big Bad Mouse’ and his shadow. Next the children carefully cut round bats, mice, cats and owls and fastened them to lolly sticks. We took turns holding our puppets in front of the projector to see the huge shadows they cast. The children tried with torches too!

12.11.19

Pyjama day!

We had a great time wearing our pyjamas and slippers to school! The children enjoyed hot chocolate, popcorn and a Peter Rabbit film. We played “would you rather” and had to make some difficult decisions... a flying car or a submarine car... eat lettuce or carrots... go to the beach or the playground...

The children had a lovely time and the experience will help develop their writing!

Sleepover party!

11.11.19

JCR class were joined by year 1 and 2 and the children watched the CBBC film ‘Poppies’. We discussed the meaning of Remembrance Day. We made our own poppy field and coloured some pictures relating to the day. At the going down of the sun and in the morning: “We will remember them”.

Remembrance Day

13/10/19

What a busy week!

We've been sorting: sorting by colour, shorting by shape and trying to guess what the sorting rule might be... The children had a great time sorting the 'electric beads' using the tweezers and improved their fine motor skills at the same time!

We've been reading Commotion in the Ocean and creating art work in response. We have made sharks, penguins, fish and jiggling jellyfish which are enjoying jiggling in the breeze from the door!

The children have been enjoying making junk models on our creation station. The writing table is very popular too.

Thank you to all the parents who helped to create and develop the new forest school area. The children are enjoying it immensely as you can see from the photos.

I am looking forward to speaking to all of you on Tuesday at the parents evening.

Mrs Watson.

6/9/2019

Welcome to Reception at St. James!

We have had a lovely week. The children have been exploring the room and getting to know the school routines. We have practised hanging up our book bags and finding our pegs. We can find our names on our hot air balloons and hang them on Ollie the Octopus.

We have played with the Bee-Bots, Mobilo and the sand as well as in the home corner. We've been reading books in the reading area and painting with brushes and paint stamps. Some children explored the laptops and made incredible pictures which we have printed off for a display.

The outside area has been very popular, the children enjoyed building a walkway and balancing across it as well as digging in the sand and playing with the cars.

We hope you enjoy looking at our photos of this week! Look forward to seeing you all again on Monday.
