Welcome to EC2 of 2021! I hope you all had an amazing summer and ready for the term ahead. We have had a fantastic first week back in school getting to know each other and doing some fun team building activities.

This term our Big Question is: "Why should the forest be important to us?".

To answer this question we will explore life cycles in Science,  the importance of the forest for the Anglo-Saxons, and the different biomes in Geography. We will also read and discuss non-fiction texts like "The Great Kapok Tree" and "The Hidden Forest" to help us further understand the  issue of deforestation.

Class Routine

We will start our day practicing our handwriting skills and our spelling words for the week, followed by the English lesson. After a well deserved break and snack, we will have our Maths lesson. This term we will learn about "Place Value" and "The Four Operations". After lunch we will have our silent reading session, getting ready for our afternoon lessons: Science, Art, History and French.

Friday will be our "Fun Day" where we will finish our day with the long-waited "Kahoot for the week".

PE is on Thursday afternoon with Mr Cooper.

Homework will be given every Monday, and checked the following Monday.

From Term 2, the children will have a spelling activity and a GPS/Mathletics extension task every week.

Term Values

The value for Term 1 will be "Perseverance" and we will celebrate students' perseverance during assemblies.

For Term 2, as we move towards Christmas, our value will be "Compassion".

Please check here for information, updates and photos of what we have been doing!

DT Project

We are getting ready to start our DT project: make our own bookmarks. Today we had our first lesson where we practiced different stitches on a binca. We did not think that sewing was so fun....and hard =)

The art of debate

As we are getting ready to write our Balanced Argument on deforestation, we researched and discussed the reasons why we need to use the resources from the rainforest, and why it is important to protect the rainforest. Acting in role, we had a fun and engaging discussion where we further discussed the pros and cons of deforestation.
