JC5

Happy Friday everyone!  Storm Eunice is keeping us all at home!  I expect you have mixed feelings about it - I know I do!  I was really looking forward to working on our volcanoes in art, and enjoying our pom-pom treat this afternoon!  But these are all things that can wait!  Half term and a good rest awaits us!

Here is a page of tasks that you can do to keep you busy today - all linked to the things we have been learning this week. Instructions are on the word document and there are 2 worksheets you can use if you have a printer and you want to use them.  You don't have to though - I've given an alternative activity where you can just record what you do on paper.

Most importantly - stay safe!  Enjoy your half term break and I will see you after the holiday!

Mrs Ellison :-)

Autumn Term 2021

Our Class - mural based on the street artist: Thank You x

The first part of our Autumn Term has come and gone in a flash!  We have been so busy learning lots of new things and

enjoying being altogether in our 'new to us' classroom!

Our BIG QUESTION across the whole term is:

Why are forests important to all of us?

We have explored this mainly through our class text, 'Sky Hawk', and our science topic on plants, animals and their  Life Cycles.  We have written reports on Osprey, including details about how these fascinating birds migrate, and return to the same nest (eyrie) every year.  We have also had lots of discussions about the environment and its impact on wildlife.  We have also been looking at the Anglo-Saxons, where they came from, and how settlements spread across the UK.  We have found out about how Christianity came to the shores of Britain again after the Romans left and discovered some notable figures who flourished at the time.

Next half term - We will continue our Science topic and be developing it further by looking at how humans change between birth and old age.  Our key question will take more of a geographical focus as we get to grips with climate zones and biomes.  We will look at the different types of forest including deciduous woodland and rainforests.

Our Christian Value for this half of term will be COMPASSION.  Do look out for the value postcards coming home - it is always wonderful to hear all about how the children have practised the Christian values at home as well as at school.

POETRY WEEK

Our focus poem for the week was a beautiful poem called SILVER by Walter de la Mare.

We learned the poem by heart and performed it in front of the whole school!  We were inspired by the words in the poem and had a go at capturing some of these images by sketching with white pencil on black paper.  Here are some of the results:

CLASS INFORMATION

Homework - Tables and spelling homework is collected in by Thursday and given out again on Friday.  Spelling and tables tests are also on Fridays.

In addition to this:

  • Reading should happen each night.  Children should read with an adult at home, at least once a week, and reading diaries need to be signed.
  • Children have been asked to complete 2 short reading tasks each week (a list of these is in their reading journals), and 1 bigger task for the book they are reading.  These tasks can be selected by the children from the 'Reading Menu' attached to their reading diary.
  • Children should aim to practise on Mathletics and/or TT Rockstars at least once a week.  Log in details are inside the children's reading diary cover.

PE is on Thursday.  Kits will need to be in school at all times and will be sent home at half terms.

Please ensure children have a coat in school each day this term - the weather can be pretty inconsistent and we do like to get the children outdoors as much as possible.

Thank you - as always - for all your help and support with your children throughout the year!
