Dormer House Girls demolished holders Temple Guiting 4-0, SCa scoring all four. Unfortunately, Dormer House had already been defeated 2-1 by St James & Ebrington in a very close match. SCa put Dormer House 1-0 up only for TM to equalise with an accurate shot at the left hand post. She had a part in the winning score, but graciously conceded the point to IWC when they almost simultaneously struck the ball in a goalmouth scramble. St James & Ebrington now needed to avoid defeat against the holders. They started well, IWC putting them ahead after a few seconds. It was then that the back line of SL and JA stared to work well as a determined unit, with MM making a string of good saves in goal. LM made good use of a power play to level the scores and the forward line showed the form which won them the trophy last year. Eventually LM gave them a precious lead, but more goals were needed to overhaul Dormer House's goal difference. With just five seconds to go, St James & Ebrington finally broke the defence and TM slotted the ball home. This was just enough to earn the Saints a place in the final against Bourton on the Water.
The 'B' Team competition is also very close. Two wins would probably take Dormer House to the final, but they only drew 0-0 with a makeshift Blockley B team. Dormer did complete a 1-0 win over Mickleton, TH the scorer. Mickleton, as always, have a good, large squad, have shown great improvement through the season, but could not get past the goalkeepers on the day. St James & Ebrington scored first through OJ, then survived concerted Mickleton attacks for a hard won victory. They (and four other teams) are still in with a chance of reaching the final, but Dormer House only need a win to clinch the place.
Next week it is hoped that some 'B' Team matches can also be played on Monday, as part of the floorball club, in an effort to find who will meet St James & Ebrington B in the final of that competition. There will be no matches on Tuesday.
