The girls team entered the cluster tournament at the Fire College last Thursday and had a marvellous time. All have come back asking to play more. Well done girls !
  • Girls Floorball

    Wed 22 Jan 2020

The St James & Ebrington girls' team played just one match tonight (21st January), their other opponents having had problems raising a team. This match was, in fact two 'second leg' contests, the 'first legs' having been played in November. At that time the girls were left 0-2down against the CCS 'A' squad, but were at 0-0 with the CCS 'B' team. Piper Rushby (twice) and StJEB old girl Isla Weeks-Coleman cemented a 5-0 overall win for the senior school's 'A' Team. Yvie Collins was also in the CCS team and was always ready to pick up the rare rebound from Darcy Bays in goal. Against CCS 'B' it was a very different picture. Bays kept a clean sheet, whilst Tia Moore netted a hat trick at the other end. This 3-0 win lifts the team up the table, level with holders Bourton on the Water, who have a game in hand. Ilmington sit on top of the group, just two points clear.

Next week (28th January) the girls will play Bourton on the Water and Mickleton, after which there should be a better idea about who has qualified.

On 4th February the 'A' Team will need to play a semi final against an as yet unknown opponent.

  • Floorball News

    Sun 19 Jan 2020

St James & Ebrington had its C and D teams in action. They started the day with a goal less draw against each other. The D Team had two further matches. The first, against Mickleton, was the  team's first win of the competition. Alice Bowen-Jones had an excellent game in defence, yet it was on a rare visit upfield when she had a shot saved. Unfortunately the ball stuck to the goalkeeper's gloves as she tried to throw out, came free and bounced back into the net. Ewan Righton followed this up with a goal of his own to complete a 2-0 win.

Everything looked  set for a second win when Joseph Venn netted against the North Cotswold Federation (NCSF). Unfortunately a bit of chaos at a free hit allowed NCSF to level. Despite recovering some composure the Federation scored again, then held on for a 2-1 win.

A long eight a side friendly between the C and D squads completed the night. With so many players on the pitch it was rather chaotic. Venn again opened the scoring for the D Team. Finley Stevens levelled, then Alex Keyte scored a freakish goal from a long way behind the net, his pass to the point bouncing in off the goalkeeper. Alex Rawlings completed the scoring in a 3-1 win. At the other end of the pitch Poppy Withers played her first match in goal and improved greatly as the match went on.

    League update:

Thirty six players have taken part in matches. This is more than the number of players at CCS.

The A Team may have to play a semi final if two other teams win their final matches, but they are well placed to reach the final against Blockley some time before Easter. Oliver Haydon is one of the league's top scorers with ten goals and is also sixth goalkeeper in a long list for his exploits with the B Team.

The B Team has booked a place in the final, where they will almost certainly play Blockley. Tia Moore's ten goals have certainly helped them reach the final.

The C and D Teams are tied on five points in 7th and 8th place in the table. They are very much development teams, following a route Mr Daldry has taken with teams in previous years. Mrs Haydon has done a great job getting the teams to CCS whilst Mr D has been incapacitated.

The Girls' Team lies in fourth place in the table, with a lot of games to play. If they can win everything from now on they will have a very good chance of progressing. After Withers' good display as goalkeeper it may be that Moore will be let loose to score the goals they need.

  • Academic Year 2019/2020

    Fri 11 Oct 2019

St Jeb are raring to go on the sports front again this year and have an action packed sporting calendar to enjoy. This year St Jeb will host 7 cluster sporting events, ranging from football and netball tournaments to the KS1 dance competition (strictly style)!

St Jeb will also continue to implement our policy of entering a whole class into events so that ALL children will take part in competitive sporting events, this worked well last year and has sparked a real interest in sports for many non engaged pupils. Last year we identified 34 pupils who were not engaging in sporting activities, but the end of the year we had 22 of them wanting to play sports or do physical activity. We are very proud.

St Jeb will continue to enter 5 floorball teams into the North Cotswold League, almost  double the number of any other school, again increasing participation in competitive sports. There are 3 leagues, A League, B league and the Girls league and around 10 schools enter. Last year we reached all 3 league finals and won 2 of them! We aim to do the same again this year.

Sporting club club participation was at an all time high last year, with over 50 children on average attending football every Friday and at one point we had 62 signed up for dodgeball club, wow!

Parents, let's keep our children active!

Well done St Jeb who won 8-5 in the end.
