  • Floorball B team are in the FINAL!

    Wed 21 Mar 2018

The 'B' Team finalists were decided tonight. Dormer House had already guaranteed a place as they could finish no lower than second. St James and Ebrington could reach the final by winning or drawing against holders, Sedgeberrow.

The holders had the best of the early exchanges, Jack Lacey being forced to parry Tom Crawford's shot over the bar. Oliver Haydon then had two good chances, but shot high then wide. Crawford did the same at the other end, then Sedgeberrow had a goal bound shot blocked by Jack Mackinnon.

The deadlock was broken when Saints were awarded a free hit in front of goal. Previous efforts had been blasted against the defence wall. This time Oliver Beale passed across to Billy Corner who shot home. Jubilation was short lived, for Crawford finished a Sedgeberrow attack with a rasping shot which deflected off a defender's stick to the roof of the net. The holders pressed forward for the winner they needed, Crawford shooting narrowly wide once more before the final whistle.

This left Dormer House on top of the group with twenty points and St James & Ebrington one point behind. They will contest the final after Easter. Even after gaining three points for a walkover in their remaining match, Sedgeberrow were a further point behind.

The match was followed by an extended friendly with some older players taking part, which Saints won 5-2. After that the Saints split into two teams led by Mr Daldry and Sally Beale, who as Sally Holmes represented CCS in their victorious National Cup side, as well as playing two matches for England and two matches for Great Britain.

    Today's results:

St James & Ebrington 1-1 Sedgeberrow

    There were also two friendlies,

St James & Ebrington 5-2 Sedgeberrow

    Beale's Bandits 3-4 Daldry's Demons

On Friday, 23rd March 2018 at Fire Service College, Dormer House play Ilmington in the 'A' Team Final and Dormer House play Temple Guiting in the Girls' Team Final.

  • Floorball B Team Potential Final

    Wed 14 Mar 2018

The Cotswold League is now in its twenty second season and this year we have a unique situation whereby Dormer House have qualified for all three finals. Accordingly, I would like to play all three finals on one afternoon at the Fire Service College, Moreton in Marsh, on Friday 23rd March 2018. The finalists will be playing on a proper rink ... not just benches in the corners! This is Dormer House's regular PE session. The timetable is below.

    Cotswold League Finals Day

    1300 Set Up Rink

1315 A Team Final  Dormer House v Ilmington

1355 Girls' Final       Dormer House v Temple Guiting

1435 B Team Final   Dormer House v St James & Ebrington or Sedgeberrow

    1515 Take Down Rink

    1530 Finish

Matches are intended to be 2x20 minutes, but may have to be reduced to 2x15 minutes.

As you can see, timing will be very tight.

I am hoping that Ilmington will be able to help set up, as many of the players know what they are doing in that regard.

  • Floorball Girls 13.3.18

    Wed 14 Mar 2018

A big thank you to all six teams who arrived earlier than expected and let all the girls have a good session of floorball, even if some had to spend a long time waiting.

A small piece of Cotswold Floorball League history was made tonight when Dormer House became the first school to get all three teams through to their respective finals in the same season. Congratulations! Their girls will meet Temple Guiting, who actually topped the group on goal difference. This year's girls' competition was very disappointing in terms of entries, but the seven teams gave a good account of themselves and the top five places were covered by just three points ... the value of one victory.

Mickleton had the difficult task of playing three matches in a row. Winning all three would put them straight into the final. Drawing one match would lead to a tie break match with Dormer House. Losing even one match would leave them further down the table.

They opened with a 2-1 win against St James & Ebrington. Tilly Walker was on good form and actually scored all Mickleton's goals on the night. Walker having put her team ahead Tia Moore equalised for SJEb almost immediately with a classy flick from the wing to the far post. With seconds to go, Saints hit the post then suffered the indignity of conceding as Walker also found the roof of the net.

Mickleton's next match started badly, Lilly Whitworth putting St Davids ahead straight from the face off. Walker levelled in similar fashion, before Whitworth put St Davids 2-1 up. Remembering that only a win would be good enough Mickleton put in a massive rush, culminating in another Walker goal. A draw looked on the cards until Walker was left alone with just seconds left and clinched the 3-2 victory.

The final obstacle to a place in the final was a St Catharines team which was lounging near the bottom of the table. They made the most of an early opening when Niamh Hannaford sent the ball in by the post. It then became the turn of a defence to shine as Shamiliya Magume and Freya Dawe blocked shot after shot and no doubt finished with the bruises to prove it. The one shot which did get past them was well saved by Emily Whittingham. Mickleton had done themselves and their school proud in difficult circumstances, but were consigned to third place, just one point behind Temple Guiting and Dormer House.

These two teams, having waited patiently to find if they were needed, played what was hoped to be a tie break match. Millie von Wedel put Temple Guiting ahead in a match where both goalkeepers were on good form. Dormer House eventually broke through to equalise and replicate the score in their earlier meeting. This bodes well for a close final, where it is hoped to play extra time if necessary. If time runs out Temple Guiting hold the tiny advantage of having finished on top of the table, albeit by a single goal in the goal difference column.

St James & Ebrington 1-2 Mickleton

    St Davids 2-3 Mickleton

    Mickleton 0-1 St Catharines

Dormer House 1-1 Dormer House (Tie Breaker)

    There were also three friendlies,

St James & Ebrington 0-0 St Catharines

St James & Ebrington 1-0 Dormer House

St James & Ebrington 0-2 Temple Guiting.

Next week, 20h March 2018,  St James & Ebrington B, Sedgeberrow and Blockley B  meet to decide the finalists in the 'B' Team Competition.

  • Floorball A team 6.3.18

    Wed 07 Mar 2018

The finalists in the Cotswold Floorball League's 'A' Team Competition

have been decided after a close and topsy turvy final round of games.

Dormer House were defending their title, yet entered the evening at the bottom of the table. Only two wins would suffice to give them a chance of reaching the final, as well as several other matches finishing to their advantage. Opening with a 1-0 win over St James & Ebrington thanks to Ethan Cooper's goal they followed this up with another victory against St Catharines by the same score. Finlay Holland-Bird's long range free hit bounced in off an unlucky defender and led to a frantic set of attacks by the Campden side, only kept at bay by William Droy and his defence. The holders now had a long and nervous wait to see if any team could overtake them.

This was a group with an unusually high number of drawn games, which suited Dormer House's ambitions. Temple Guiting started the day in a promising position, but could only force a 0-0 draw with St James & Ebrington. The latter went on to tie 1-1 with North Cotswold. Jamie Fowler gave the Federation an early lead only for Joel Masters to level when his hard cross was deflected in off another unlucky defender.

St James & Ebrington also drew 1-1 with a highly fancied Ilmington side whose skill showed from their involvement in the Sunday League. Joe Lewis put Ilmington ahead and they looked en route to a win when Toby Townsend broke away and tucked home the equaliser. St Catharines gave themselves a chance of reaching the final with a 2-1 over Temple  Guiting. Oliver Whitehouse gave Saints the lead with a beautiful shot to the top right corner, yet this was beaten for 'goal of the day'by Will Adams' backhand chop to the top left corner for Temple Guiting. Saints goalie Jack Hemming kept his team in the reckoning as Guiting pressed for the win, allowing time for Whitehouse to net the winner.

Against the Fedration, St Catharines took their chance brilliantly, Edward Smith - twice - and Whitehouse completing a 3-0 victory. The final scheduled match now took on a great importance when St Catharines took on Ilmington. A win or draw for Saints would put them into the final against Ilmington. A loss would force them into a tie break against the waiting Dormer House, who cheered on every Ilmington move. Smith gave Saints an early lead, only to lose it when Rhys Devereaux scored on the power play. Ilmington's Jensen Armstrong appeared certain to score when one on one with goalie Hemming who made a superb save. Eventually pressure told when Armstrong scored the winner.

This forced St Catharines into a fifth match on the night and a third in a row. To their advantage, they were on good form and kept forcing Droy to save. They also had a power play, but were unable to force a score. Dormer House had their one chance when they forced their own power play and Holland- Bird lashed the ball home from the resulting free hit. This proved to be the only goal of the match. Dormer House will now play Ilmington on a date to be decided.

St James & Ebrington 0-1 Dormer House

St James & Ebrington 0-0 Temple Guiting

    Dormer House 1-0 St Catharines

St James & Ebrington 1-1 NCSF

    Temple Guiting 1-2 St Catharines

Ilmington 1-1 St James & Ebrington

    NCSF 0-3 St Catharines

    Ilmngton 2-1 St Catharines

Dormer House 1-0 St Catharines (Tie Breaker)

Next week, 13th March 2018,  St James & Ebrington, St Davids, St Catharines and Mickleton meet to decide the finalists in the Girls' Competition.

  • Floorball B Team 27.3.18

    Wed 28 Feb 2018

The Cotswold Floorball League's 'B' Team qualifying pool is almost complete, yet the two remaining matches (Sedgeberrow v St James & Ebrington 'B' and Sedgeberrow v Blockley) are still needed to decide which teams will contest the final.

St James & Ebrington B team had a great chance of sealing their place in that final if they could beat both their opponents on the night. An Oliver Beale hat trick gave them a 3-0 win over Ilmington, the last of these a beautiful flick to the roof of the net from a long way out. Unfortunately, Dormer House were also in line to reach the final and scored two early goals through William Droy. With a minute to go Finlay Holland-Bird made a point blank save to deny Saints. With only seconds remaining he was finally beaten by Oliver Haydon, but had done enough to preserve a 2-1 win.

Dormer House continued their good form against both Willersey and Blockley, defeating both 2-0. Droy  scored three of these four goals, Logan Drysdale Mills being 'odd man out' with his goal against Blockley. This puts Dormer into a semi final at the worst, although results may yet go their way to enable direct entry to the final. St James & Ebrington 'B' are in a similar position, but can get direct to the final by beating Sedgeberrow in two week's time.

Blockley overcame Ilmington 2-0, Max Spodafora netting both. Ilmington started well against Willersey, Rory Rowan scoring early on. The defence held out well, but could not hope to stop Theo Beale's equaliser. Willersey again showed good positional play and inter passing, but could not find the finishing touches they craved.

St James & Ebrington B 1-2 Dormer House

    St James & Ebrington C 3-0 Ilmington

    Dormer House 2-0 Willersey

    Ilmington 0-2 Blockley

    Dormer House 2-0 Blockley

    Willersey 1-1 Ilmington

Next week, 6th March 2018,  St James & Ebrington, North Cotswold SF, Temple Guiting, Ilmington, St Catharines and Dormer House meet to decide the finalists of the 'A' Team competition.
