On Saturday we had 5 children qualified in to the Gloucestershire county finals, the most we've ever had! Each race had the county's best 60 x country athletes making it an elite level event. Congratulations to Alex Rawlings who finished 22nd with no training, stunning!
  • Floorball B,C,D

    Mon 04 Mar 2019
The Cotswold Floorball League's 'B' Team competition continued tonight. The session ended up being two distinct sets of matches. Four games were to decide who progressed to the 'B' Team Final against St James & Ebrington B. The other four games were to give Dormer House B a rest as they tried to climb up the table by playing all their games in hand. St James and Ebrington D (hereafter, The D Team) provided the opposition. Strangely, all the key games were 0-0 draws as defences and goalkeepers dominated. This left Temple Guiting A in second place in the qualifying table, closely followed by Dormer House B. They will need to meet again to decide who contests the final.
In the other matches the 'D Team' showed how much they have improved. LB in goal had a particularly good evening, keeping out a lot of shots despite his team losing every match. WBd's solitary goal was enough for Ilmington C to win. Brothers JS and VS gave Dormer House B a 2-0 win. MS, TA and MS again impressed for Blockley A with all three goals the result of accurate passes from the back. TA and JS supplied MS's goals, whilst TA's goal was a beautiful shot from the left wing which hit the far top corner. Temple Guiting A also had a 3-0 win, JA and PU - twice, scoring.

Next week the A Team finalists should be decided, with almost every team involved and every match being important. It could yet end up with several teams tied at the top.

    Wed 27 Feb 2019

Before half term the St Jeb girls hammered our local rivals St Catharines 5-3. Our girls proudly sported our new Nike school kit partly paid for by Premier League Rising Stars and partly sports premium money. Doesn't it look fab?

    Well done girls!

  • Floorball B Team reach the final!

    Fri 15 Feb 2019

The Cotswold Floorball League's 'B' Team competition continued tonight.

Three wins gave holders St James & Ebrington B a return trip to the final with a 100% record over their closest rivals. AR had a good night on the scoring front, his last second goal winning over Temple Guiting A as well as netting against the other two opponents. In the Blockley A game MS had given Blockley an early lead, but they then ran into penalty trouble. AR levelled. and JL scored the winner from a penalty shot. Against Ilmington CLouis grove made the most of a goal mouth melee to put the holders ahead. AR made it 2-0 with a lucky goal which bounced in off a defender. The battle in the week after half term will be for second place with Temple Guiting A, Blockley A, St James & Ebrington C and Dormer House B still in the hunt. The latter have four vital matches to play. Three wins would be enough to reach the final for the second year running.
Temple Guiting A defeated St James & Ebrington C 2-0, missing a penalty shot in the process, but scoring through FK and JA. BM opened the scoring for Guiting against Ilmington B after a long spell in which the goalkeepers were dominant. AB saved a penalty shot for Guiting only for CF to equalise. This leaves Temple Guiting with eight points in the bag. A win next time out will guarantee a place in a semi final at least.
Ilmington B and C teams fought out a fine match in what was ultimately goal less. Ilmington C lost their match against St James & Ebrington C when OJ scored twice in succession. Highest scoring match of the night was between Blockley A and Ilmington B. JS and EDB quickly gave Blockley a 2-0 lead, but could not contain CF whose two goals levelled the match. Blockley's winner was a fine score, EDB's long pass finding MS unmarked. He turned and shot home in a single move.

    Today's B Team Results

    St James & Ebrington B 1-0 Temple Guiting A

    Temple Guiting A 2-0 St James & Ebrington C

    Blockley A 3-2 Ilmington B

    Ilmington C 0-2 St James & Ebrington B

    Apologies for the late report.

I have been wrestling with the problem of how to decide the finalists for the 'A' Team and Girls' team competitions as fairly as possible. We have had to resort to shorter matches on too may occasions this season which becomes a problem when there are also a lot of close results. This means that if, after a full league programme, several teams are still within a couple of points of each other we need to find a 'better' way of separating them than 'goal difference'. or the result of a single early season match.

The 'B' Team play offs start tomorrow and are impossible to predict.

The other current situations are below.

    GIRLS TEAM:

Bourton on the Water are well clear in the table and will definitely be in the final. Dormer House and St James & Ebrington are definitely in a semi final. Temple Guiting may join them if they can defeat the Federation. This semi final stage may have to be played on a Monday or on another day at Fire College if Dormer House have a slot available.

    'A' TEAM:

We are going to have to complete the full league table. The withdrawal of Shipston means that this is now feasible. There are eleven matches to play. Nine of these have an impact on which teams go to the final. The other two games sort out mid table rankings. Bourton on the Water and Ilmington are locked at the top of the table, with St Davids, St James & Ebrington and St Catharines close behind, all with games in hand. Even after these games I am not convinced that finalists will emerge easily and some semi finals will be needed. I don't think the league has ever been this close.

    Regards,

    Andrew

    Attached are three items:

    Tables

Fixture List ... yet another one! It shows who will be needed when after today's games.

Tutors - Please let the team see this if you have time.

I have had a bit of information from one of the schools about the effects of ... yes ... GDPR. I understand that surnames of the players must not be used. It may be that your school's policy is different. Please let me know if it is. However, for now, the usual report is no more. I will write what I can, but it may be just tables and scores, with only a bit of information. I will use initials, which you will have to decipher.

The Cotswold Floorball League's A Team and Girls' Team competitions were both expected to deliver their two finalists tonight only for results to leave almost everything still in doubt.
    Girls' Competition.
Temple Guiting's hopes of defending their title were severely dented after three losses. Bourton on the Water showed that they really are the team to beat as they amassed 25 points out of 27, beating the holders 7-1 in the process. LJ's early hat trick in the space of a minute laid the foundation. IT followed up with two more goals then LJ brought her tally up to five. MM in the Temple Guiting goal made a lot of good saves in a vain effort to keep the score down. St James & Ebrington also defeated the holders, 4-1, in what was initially a much closer match. IWC and TM gave the Campden side a two goal lead, LM pulling one back for Guiting. IWC and TM finished the game off with a goal apiece. This drew St James & Ebrington level with Dormer House on fifteen points. They must now play a semi final match to decide who plays Bourton on the Water in the final. Temple Guiting may yet join them if they can beat North Cotswold SF next week.
St Davids also defeated the holders when EB's lone goal gave them the win. EGO scored early on to give St Davids the lead against Blockley, but had to settle for a draw when EDB netted late on. St Davids now end in seventh place and Blockley in eighth place. Bourton on the Water completed their qualifying campaign with a 2-1 win over Blockley. After LJ gave them a 2-0 lead they removed her from the line up for a well deserved rest. This allowed Blockley's EDB to pull one back, but too late to affect the result.

    A Team Matches
After their dominance in the girls' matches and their qualifying group it was expected that Bourton on the Water would also reach the A Team final. Everything looked good when LJ slammed home an early goal, followed by a torrent of shots against other group winners St James & Ebrington. Only great work by the defence and JL in goal prevented a heavier defeat. St James & Ebrington took a major step towards the final when they beat Dormer House 2-0, both scored by OB. JL again performed well in keeping out a Dormer attack which deserved more for their effort. In what was to prove a very tough evening's play for Bourton they then succumbed to defeats by both St Catharines and St Davids. Both teams really impressed, but were suffering from too many early draws and losses to be sure of direct qualification to the final. St Catharines took an early 3-0 lead when MB (twice) and ES scored. LJ did pull one back for Bourton, but too late to force a win. In the St Davids match LM gave them an early lead, soon equalised by Bourton's LJ. The match hinged on a well taken long range free hit by ET which landed in front of goal and was tipped home by LM. He soon completed his hat trick before LH completed the 4-1 victory. Bourton on the water now knew exactly what they had to do to stand a chance of reaching a semi final. In their way were the holders, Ilmington. The holder's defence were blocking almost everything brilliantly, but could not prevent LJ from gaining another hat trick and a 3-0 win for her side. This gives her 47 goals at an average of 2.5 per game. The next best record is St Davids LM with 14 goals.
Bourton on the Water are on top at present, but have only one match to play. Their programme complete, Ilmington are stuck in second place and must hope that results below them open a back door to the semi final stage. St Catharines and St Davids both have matches to play, can still get direct to the final, but may well have to meet in a semi final to see who progresses. St James & Ebrington look like favourites to reach the final if they can win three of their four remaining games.

Next week there will be nine matches in the B Team Competition, looking for a single team to advance, as well as the final Girls' League qualifier.

    Today's A Team Results

Dormer House 0-2 St James & Ebrington

Bourton on the Water 1-0 St James & Ebrington

Bourton on the Water 1-3 St Catharines

Bourton on the Water 1-4 St Davids

Bourton on the Water 3-0 Ilmington

  • Girls Floorball

    Wed 23 Jan 2019

At the start of tonight's Girls' League matches in the Cotswold Floorball League five teams were still in a position to reach the final and no team was safe from elimination. By the end o the day a finalist was known and three other teams remain in contention for a place in the final.

Blockley started their evening well, shocking favoured team St James & Ebrington when ABC scrambled the ball home off an unlucky defender, giving the keeper no chance. St James & Ebrington pressed forward for the rest of the match and had two gilt edged chances, both saved by HJ in the Blockley goal.

Dormer House also had hopes of reaching the final, needing three wins to be sure of their place. Goals from SCa and SCo against Blockley sealed the first win. The second win, against Mickleton, was won by the same score, SB netting both times. The match against Ilmington was one of constant Dormer House attacks, only to find EF an impregnable defence. ES was doing just as well at the other end until an Ilmington move up the left wing found CC unmarked and able to sneak the ball home for the only goal of the game. Sitting on 15 points, Dormer House now have to wait and see what happens in next week's matches. In the last match N Cotswold SF removed Blockley's last chance of reaching the final when MA scored the only goal of that game. RS again kept her team in the game as Blockley tried to get the two scores they needed.

All these results left Bourton on the Water still on top of the table with no possibility of finishing lower than a clear second place and a place in the final 'in the bag'. Dormer House, St James & Ebrington and Temple Guiting (holders) still have a chance to reach the final. The holders have the best chance, with four matches still to play.

Next week there will be five matches in the Girls' League. and five matches in the final qualifying stage of the 'A' Team competition.

    Dormer House 2-0 Mickleton

    Dormer House 2-0 Blockley

    Dormer House 0-1 Ilmington

    Blockley 0-1 NCSF

St James & Ebrington 0-1 Blockley

St James & Ebrington 1-1 Mickleton (IWC and NP scored)

    Greens/Whites 4-2 Reds/Blues (Scorers not noted)

  • Floorball B,C,D Teams

    Thu 06 Dec 2018

The Cotswold Floorball League 'B' Team competition continued tonight with twelve more matches played. Title holders St James & Ebrington are fielding three teams in this competition (i.e. five teams over the three competitions) which has never been tried  before. In the report, if no team is mentioned it has got to be St James & Ebrington! As holders, they were hoping for a good start and managed to do this when the B Team were undefeated on the night. They will now sit and wait for qualifiers to emerge and challenge them. IWC's lone goal was enough to beat a tenacious C Team. She was on target once more against the young D Team, following AR's brace and MMc's final goal in a 4-0 win. The C Team were given difficult time by the D Team until TM broke the deadlock with two quick goals. HMc added the final touch in a 3-0 victory. The three teams also had a good evening against a CCS team which had several former St James & Ebrington pupils in its ranks. EH's score was enough to beat the D Team. CCS had by  far the best of the match against the C Team only to find LG in inspired form in goal. It took a single break, a free hit and leaky defensive wall for TM to score the only goal of the game as the C Team won. CCS's match against the B Team was one of almost constant defence. JL and MMc gave the B Team a 2-0 lead before EH netted against his old school, only for MMc to make it 3-1 in the final seconds.

TM finished off her very satisfactory night for the C Team when her goal was enough to beat Temple Guiting B. Unfortunately, the next match against Ilmington B saw the score reversed as CC earned her team the win. Temple Guiting B, with three brothers playing, were able to defeat the D Team when ArcB netted. They went on to surprise the strong B Team when a defence dominated match ended 0-0. Ilmington B lost out when MMc scored the only goal after a great pass by LG found him unmarked with only the goalkeeper to beat. Ilmington B took their revenge on the D Team, CF scoring twice, sandwiching RR's goal in a 3-0 win.

Next week, 11th December Blockley, St James & Ebrington, Mickleton, St Davids, N Cotswold SF, Bourton on the Water and CCS play in the Girls' Competition.

    CCS 1-0 St James & Ebrington D

    St James & Ebrington D 0-3 Ilmington B

    St James & Ebrington C 1-0 Temple Guiting B

    St James & Ebrington B 1-0 Ilmington B

  • Floorball Girls 20.11.18

    Wed 21 Nov 2018

The Cotswold Floorball League Girls' Team competition continued tonight with twelve more matches played.  Bourton on the Water showed that they are likely to be the team to beat with a clean sweep of three victories. A hat trick by LJ brought all three points against closest rivals Dormer House. Their tackling, interpassing and shooting impressed everyone, building as it does on performances in previous seasons. North Cotswold SF suffered a 5-0 defeat at their hands. LJ added two more goals to her total, IT added tow more and JS completed the scoring. A feature of this match was the goalkeeping of RS for the Federation who kept out many shots which would have defeated other keepers. St James & Ebrington gave Bourton their toughest match. JS and LJ put Bourton ahead, but TM pulled one back. It took a few minutes of pressure before LJ netted a rebound from her own shot . The Two Graces in the St James & Ebrington defence kept further attacks at bay until LJ added another score for a 4-1 win.

CCS also had a good evening with three wins, improving from match to match. A lone goal by TG settled the tie against St James & Ebrington. TG was on target twice more in a 3-0 win over Dormer House, following LW's opening score. The best performance came against NCSF, each line of players working well as LW, GW and TG each scored in the 3-0 win. EH in goal saved her team many times, particularly in the first game, whilst EB did not put a foot, or pass, wrong in the defence.

Dormer House forward SorC had a fine evening with three goals. The first was all her team needed in a very close match with St James & Ebrington. Her other two scores were against local rivals St Davids, again the only goals of the match. In their final match, against NCSF,  SopC came out of goal to score at the other end. Again, it was the only goal of the match in which NCSF gave their best performance of the day and showed they are quick learners, having played their first ever game earlier in the evening.

NCSF also played well against St Davids, earning a point and having the best of the play in a goalless draw. The Federation suffered a tough defeat against St James & Ebrington who seemed incapable of doing anything wrong. IWC's hat trick laid down the foundations of a 4-0 win, SHH netting the other goal. IWC also scored both in their final win over St Davids.

This leaves Bourton on the Water and Dormer House tied at the top of this qualifying pool, the former having two matches in hand. St James & Ebrington are close behind, whilst St Davids and NCSF are tied at the foot of the table.

On 11th December the lowest placed teams will play to decide who moves into the next stage of play offs.

CCS 1-0 St James & Ebrington

    CCS 3-0 Dormer House

    CCS 3-0 NCSF

Dormer House 1-0 St James & Ebrington

    Dormer House 2-0 St Davids

Dormer House 0-3 Bourton on the Water

    Dormer House 1-0 NCSF

St James & Ebrington 4-0 NCSF

St James & Ebrington 2-0 St Davids

St James & Ebrington 1-4 Bourton on the Water

    St Davids 0-0 NCSF

NCSF 0-5 Bourton on the Water
