  • Floorball A Team 16.10.18

    Wed 17 Oct 2018

The Cotswold Floorball League 'A' Team competition's first group is now complete. The table is attached.

St James & Ebrington consolidated their position at the top of the qualifying table with wins against St Davids and Mickleton, as well as a draw with local rivals St Catharines. Oliver Haydon and Oliver Beale each scored twice in a 4-0 win over Mickleton. Haydon put his team ahead against St Catharines, but Max Bolam levelled.  St Catharines had a short handed spell at the end of the match, but survived. Against St Davids, Lewis Martin put the Moreton side ahead and they seemed in control when Thomas Chamberlain's shot headed goalward, only for Jack Lacey to parry it. At the other end, Ellis Muckle also kept out some stinging shots, but could not prevent Joel Masters' late effort from hitting the roof of the net. A draw was on the cards until St Davids had a defender sent to the sin bin for a rash tackle. St James & Ebrington capitalised when Beale scored in the final seconds.

Despite this setback, St Davids finished second in the group, courtesy of Martin's lone goal against Ilmington. St Catharines sealed third place with a 2-1 win over Ilmington. Jack Hemming's first time strike to the far top corner was one of the best goals of the night the lead being stretched to 2-0 when Bolam poked home from close range. Zac Tremellen replicated Hemming's goal to pull one back, but time ran out as Ilmington started to dominate. Ilmington finished in fourth qualifying place when Jack Homans, Tremellen and Homans again gave them a 3-0 victory against Mickleton.

    Next matches for these teams:

St James & Ebrington on 29th January 2019

St Davids and St Catharines on 15th January 2019

Ilmington, Mickleton and Shipston (if they are able) on 6th November 2018

St James & Ebrington 4-0 Mickleton

St James & Ebrington 2-1 St Davids

St James & Ebrington 1-1 St Catharines

    Mickleton 0-3 Ilmington

    St Catharines 2-1 Ilmington

    Ilmington 0-1 St Davids

In the week after half term Blockley, North Cotswold, Willeresy, Bourton on the Water, Temple Guiting and Dormer House play the next group of 'A' Team games. The complete play off picture will be known by the end of the evening.

  • Floorball A Team 18.9.19

    Wed 19 Sep 2018

Ilmington started the defence of their Cotswold Floorball League title with a last second victory over CCS. Zac Tremellen opened the scoring for them in the first minute only to be pulled back straight away by Ethan Hill. CCS went ahead after a determined run up the left wing by Felix Lindner resulted in a goal. CCS were definitely having the better of the game, yet could not get past goalie Timmy Goble. The holders made good use of their own left wing, a hard cross skimming across the face of the goal to be deftly tipped home by Joe Lewis. They pushed forward for the win, forcing a free hit from which a senior defender was sent to the sin bin. The reduced side kept Ilmington at bay until the last few seconds when a Tremellen shot crept home for a 3-2 win.

CCS also had a disappointing time against a St James & Ebrington containing four of last season's 'B' Team champions. The seniors had by far the best of possession and shots, yet everything hit the post, wandered just wide or was saved by Jack Lacey, who had an excellent day. St James & Ebrington only had two good breakaway attacks, leaving the defence standing and scored on both occasions through Joel Masters and Oliver Beale. CCS had a late power play, but could not score.

The final match saw St James & Ebrington topping the table after a comprehensive 4-0 win over Ilmington. The scoring opened with a speculative shot by Masters going wide only for Oliver Haydon to somehow leap in by the back pot and tip the ball home. Two goals by Masters and one from Beale completed the scoring. Ilmington did have several good shots of their own, only to be stopped by Lacey.

CCS took the chance to give their girls' squad some practice. They lost two matches 2-0 and drew the other 0-0, yet played well. Against Ilmington Lewis scored twice in the last minute, the first after a nasty rebound off a defender, the second the result of picking up both of his own rebounds. Beale and Haydon each netted for St James & Ebrington, but it would have been more if Oliver Bragg had not played so well. He continued this in the drawn match against the CCS Boys.

Next week CCS, Temple Guiting, Dormer House and North Cotswold lay the next group of 'A' Team games.
